Position Summary

Working under the guidance of the Financial Accounting Supervisor, the Finance Systems Accountant acts as the primary liaison between the Geismar Finance, Information Technology (IT) and manufacturing teams. He/she works directly with stakeholders within each of these teams to understand their system business requirements and impact on Finance and better serve them by being the change agent for Methanex Geismar’s business systems thereby ensuring that everyone is provided with the systems, tools and reports they need to perform their jobs efficiently and effectively and achieve daily operational excellence. 

Position Responsibilities

  • Gain knowledge and understanding of Finance team (accounting, procurement and warehouse) from a systems perspective to understand their business needs and priorities.
  • Provide expert advice, training, and support to Finance in the understanding of Methanex’s financial systems and operating procedures along with resolution of Geismar system issues.
  • Partner with Finance Team to complete projects because of corporate or regulatory requirements.  
  • Work with global SME teams as site representative for Finance in the development, ongoing operations, upgrades and/or improvements of Methanex financial systems to ensure business requirements and software changes are understood, documented, tested and implemented in accordance with Corporate Finance, IT and site policies.
  • Drive the migration of key financial reports, including statutory and management reports as required.
  • Prepare, review and maintain all financial systems policies and procedures.
  • In conjunction with relevant stakeholders develop and implement strategy to automate, continually improve and standardize finance business processes through the investment in and management of technology.
  • Liaise with stakeholders to understand what their requirements are and ensure reporting needs and KPI’s are appropriately captured in system upgrades/migrations.
  • Identify potential opportunities for improvement to enhance report capability and better support financial analysis and business decision making.
  • Lead and ensure that financial systems can accommodate the changing needs of the business e.g. implementing new modules and implementing new interfaces.
  • Develop, document and maintain operating procedures to ensure financial systems are used appropriately and data integrity is maintained.
  • Adhere to appropriate standards and guidelines, ensuring all work complies with relevant corporate, legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Build strong relationships with key internal stakeholders to increase business understanding and role efficiency.
  • Prepare and maintain Sarbanes Oxley narratives for all activities relevant to this position, including testing requirements.

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Information Systems, or other relevant discipline from an accredited institution required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience.
  • Must be skilled in the use of business systems.
  • In depth knowledge of accounting and procurement processes.
  • MS Office application knowledge including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with Oracle and/or Maximo a plus.
  • Maintain flexibility and respond to changing work demands and/or priorities.
  • Time-management, planning and organizational skills.
  • High level of interpersonal skills (communication, listening and reliability).
  • Proactive in identifying opportunities to improve team or process efficiency.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
