Position Summary

Leads the I&E resources to maintain the electrical, instrumentation and controls systems at Methanex Geismar to achieve strategic goals efficiently and effectively, ensuring the safety of personnel, protection of the environment and reliability of the plant.

Position Responsibilities

  • Effectively lead the I/E team to achieve the vision and goals of the department, site and organization
  • Develop the competencies and capabilities of the team, ensuring proper succession planning
  • Conduct regular performance reviews with team members, offering career guidance and providing constructive feedback on positive contributions & areas for improvement
  • Motivate and engage the team to perform at peak level
  • Collaborate with other team leaders to resolve challenges and optimize efficiency, effectiveness & productivity
  • Provide input to develop strategic goals for the site
  • Communicate to stakeholders effectively and timely
  • Manage contractor relationships
  • Manage the I/E maintenance program, ensuring work is completed safely, reliably, efficiently, timely and cost effectively to required level of quality
  • Effectively manage the I/E budget and schedule
  • Support the team in achieving tactical goals, providing required tools & equipment to be successful while removing obstacles and hindrances
  • Manage unplanned breakdowns to minimize production loss, re-deploying resources and ensuring that appropriate risk mitigation is incorporated into the plan  
  • Supervise shutdown and turnaround work
  • Manage I/E contractors and maintenance contracts, in compliance with contractor management system requirements
  • Collaborates with other crafts and departments to ensure work is properly aligned
  • Provide guidance to team to troubleshoot plant issues and identify root causes
  • Review team logs, reports and QA/QC documentation, ensuring corrective action is taken when required
  • Audit jobs plans, JSA documents and field execution
  • Proactively seeks more efficient ways to design, plan and execute work
  • Ensure all plant maintenance is implemented in accordance with Methanex standards, best practices and all relevant USA legislation.
  • Able to quickly adapt to changing priorities
  • Available for call-out
  • Support the Reliability team with resolving plant issues
  • Recognize the Operations team as a key stakeholder and customer in executing duties
  • Actively participate on GICET team
  • Ensure that all plant changes are implemented in accordance with the applicable Methanex Management of Change procedures.
  • Mange design, plan and execute moderately complex capital project
  • Ensure work is performed efficiently and cost effectively
  • Actively seeks out continuous improvement opportunities that enhances HSSEQ, productivity, reliability and cost efficiency

Position Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Instrument or electrical trade certification
  • Associate degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience with plant maintenance including supervisory duties
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office and asset management system software
  • Possesses effective communication skills
  • Experience with predictive and preventative maintenance program
  • Experience with electrical distribution and substation maintenance
  • Experience with instrument calibration programs
  • Experience with continuous emission systems and process analyzers
  • Experience with DCS, ESD and PLC systems
  • Experience with managing projects
  • Knowledge of SIS ISA 84 standard and NFPA70E
  • Able to work in a dynamic environment within a diverse and global team
  • Able to effectively challenge traditional thinking and practices.
