Methanex is a committed supporter of many important community initiatives in Vancouver.
Our employee-run social responsibility committee in Vancouver supports a number of community programs and provides many opportunities for our employees to volunteer and give back.
Since 1994, Methanex in Vancouver has supported the United Way of the Lower Mainland contributing over C$6.7 million to the organization. We have been recognized for our outstanding dedication to the United Way and for donating the highest amount per employee among our industry peer group of companies. Our employees also organize several “Days of Caring” to support the United Way campaign and to give employees the opportunity to volunteer, on company time, at local organizations.
Since 2009, Methanex employees have been involved as organizers and participants in Kick for a Cure, a soccer tournament that raises money for childhood cancer research.
Methanex also invests in education through annual scholarships programs in engineering, accounting and management information systems at the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University.
Our wholly owned subsidiary, Waterfront Shipping, is a long-term supporter of the Mission of Seafarers – a global network of centres offering a warm and hospitable ‘home away from home’ to visiting seaman. The Mission’s two Vancouver locations receive approximately 15,000 visits each year.
Waterfront Shipping also supports the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary, a non-profit organization that provides volunteer marine rescue services and promotes water safety.
