Position Summary

Based in our office in Hong Kong, this position reports to Product Manager, Asia, and is responsible for:

1. Market analysis and reporting
2. Pricing support
3. Competitive dynamics tracking

Position Responsibilities

Market Analysis & Reporting

• Develop, maintain, and confirm comprehensive overview of Asia market supply and demand fundamentals with easily extractable outputs to be delivered on short notice to the global marketing teams and regional Asia Commercial Leadership Team

Demand

• Maintain the plant-level database considering macro-economic information, customer data, and competitive intelligence for Asia ex-China to generate real-time demand statistics based on operating rates of plants in varying derivative sectors
• Reconcile the above with import statistics
• Maintain intelligence on operating capability and economics of Asia region’s consuming facilities and pending facilities

Supply

• Maintain plant-level database generating real-time production statistics based on competitive intel from SEA and ME contacts
• Reconcile with export statistics and country-level demand
• Maintain intelligence and assumptions on plant level feedstock costs and export costs to generate competitor production profiles

Trade Flows

• Reconcile cross-basin movements via vessel tracking by working with global marketing team and WFS for competitive intel that highlights cross-basin movements.
• Identify key trends and report on any differences and assumption adjustments to competitor activities.
• As part of SMPT, consolidate, update, and present information for SMPT’s monthly MIS.
• Identify and track key macro-economic trends affecting methanol demand for consolidation into SMPT economic report delivered quarterly to ELT, Global Commercial Team for update ahead of investor briefings.
• SMPT: Derivative Fact Sheets – lead development and maintenance of derivative analysis for global Methanex consumption (SVP – M&L through Global Commercial Team), sourcing information from other Methanex regions regarding overall methanol demand from specific derivatives, legislative factors affecting derivative markets, and highlight opportunities and threats for Methanex.

 

Pricing Support

• Prepare monthly Asia Market summaries with key highlights for Asia Sales & Marketing team members.
• Prepare weekly Asia market updates by consolidating and summarizing key messages and spot market information from publications, including Argus, ICIS, MMSA, CMA, S&P Global.
• Support Product Manager, Asia for monthly Price Talking Points and Key Messages.
• Support Product Manager, Asia for proposing monthly APCP recommendation to VP – M&L, Asia.
• Track pricing performance closely to identify gaps and recommend netback improvement opportunities.
• Develop Asia netback analysis tool for use in semi-annual Business Review Meetings with Asia Commercial Leadership Team; Tool should be able to give monthly, quarterly, and annual updates on Methanex Asia business performance showing price performance vs competition and final realized netback, expected revenue net of logistics costs.
• Build and maintain ad-hoc tools for Asia commercial team to visualize business opportunities and performance; These tools include a price protection performance tool and market segmentation tool.
• Support the Asia Sales & Marketing team with management of key processes including:
• Provide and contribute to business performance analysis, e.g. netback (ARP) analysis,
• Prepare price talking points for the sales team.
• Maintain and update Asia contract log to track contracting progress.
• Maintain and update any other Key Performance Indicators

 

Competitive Dynamics Tracking and Understanding

• Maintain competitor Mix Matrix for Korea, Japan, Singapore, and Thailand – with potential to add-in Indonesia and India as research on countries continues.
• Support data build-up of Key Competitor Profiles.
• Update PowerBI database reflecting supply, demand, and competitor information that is for interactive use by the Asia commercial team and Global SMPT.

 

Ad-hoc Support

• Support Product Manager with data for strategic projects, pricing strategy feedback, etc.
• Support cross functional teams, such as Global Supply Chain, Oracle Teams (Fusion Analytics) and local Operation team to improve the data extraction process on Methanex internal sales (e.g. gathering data regarding product origins, re-exports, inventories, and past customer sales)

• Participate in incident investigation as applicable, support the gathering of lessons learned are to drive continuous improvement and avoid re-occurrences.

Position Qualifications

• University Graduate. Degree in relevant field preferred, or equivalent related work experience.
• Equipped with business acumen, financial knowledge and understanding of the market fundamentals in order to summarize information and propose recommendations.
• Knowledge and experience of Excel modelling.
• Knowledge and experience in building databases for PowerBI visualization.
• Proven experience with data manipulation and analyses to support business decisions.
• Computer skills (MS applications: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, PowerBI).
• Influencing skills and inter-personal skills required for interaction with other teams for information.
• Proven analytical mindset required to dissect issues and propose clear and concise path forward despite ambiguity.
• Ability to deliver oral and written messages in a clear, compelling, and concise manner; adjusts to fit the audience and the message.
