Position Summary

The Financial Analyst provides analytical and financial expertise for the Methanex Medicine Hat site facilitating informed business decisions and effective management of resources.  This role will also focus on financial stewardship and reputation through compliance with accounting standards, company policies and sound governance.

Position Responsibilities

• Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Deliver management reviews of financial positions.
• Collaborate with managers to develop cost management strategies.
• Maintain accurate general ledger balances and prepare journal entries.
• Stay updated on IFRS and Accounting Standards.
• Review and approve Authorization for Expenditures (AFE’s).
• Liaise with project managers for timely project close-outs.
• Provide monthly capital program and project status reports.
• Act as a change agent for Financial and Asset Management systems.
• Coordinate annual site capital plan, production, and budget submissions.

Position Qualifications

Technical Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

• Post-secondary degree in business, economics, finance, or accounting required.
• Completion or enrollment in a professional accounting designation program is considered an asset.
• Minimum of 5 years in relevant accounting positions, including experience in general ledger, budgets, reporting and financial analysis.
• Sound knowledge of accounting principles and financial statement preparation
• financial, analytical, research and communication skills; ability to question results and not accept information at face value.
• Possess the aptitude to run and use specific systems such as Oracle.
• Strong working knowledge of financial systems/applications, excellent Excel skills in data compilation and aggregation (i.e., pivot tables, VLOOKUP)
• Demonstrated success in leading a team and developing direct reports is an asset.
