Position Summary

The Buyer is responsible for researching, evaluating, purchasing, and expediting the delivery of materials, equipment, supplies, and services required to meet the needs of Methanex Corporation Medicine Hat, while ensuring compliance with all procurement policies, procedures, and standards.

This is a temporary position with an estimated end date of August 29, 2025.

Position Responsibilities

  • Purchase materials, equipment, supplies, and services following provincial regulations, company policies, and industry best practices.
  • Create Requests for Proposal and bid packages for TAR projects.
  • Process purchase requisitions, issue purchase orders, and ensure purchases are made only from approved vendors.
  • Liaise with vendors to ensure adherence to specifications, timely delivery, and effective cost management.
  • Expedite purchases through various means to meet delivery timelines.
  • Maintain quality and price/cost information files for reference in purchasing decisions.
  • Collaborate with different departments to select materials, equipment, supplies, and services that best meet needs.
  • Resolve internal and external customer concerns and issues related to purchases.
  • Manage inventory levels, ensure items and services meet quality standards, label, and document inventory, and maintain stock within designated limits.
  • Complete and submit all procurement documentation to the Finance team for invoice payment, ensure compliance with policies, and support Methanex core values and one-team culture.

Position Qualifications

Technical Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree in Business, post-secondary diploma in supply chain management or related discipline, or a combination of other relevant certifications and experience.
  • 3-5 years of progressive experience in a chemical, energy, or similar industrial setting.
  • Strong negotiating skills, including experience with contract negotiation, creation, and management.
  • Proficiency with the MS Office suite of programs.
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license.
  • Experience with Maximo software is an asset.
  • Experience purchasing items regulated under an owner-user program or by the Alberta Boilers Safety Association (ABSA) is an asset.
