Summer Intern – Process Safety Incident Analyst

Position Summary

Review and analyse process safety incidents that have occurred in industry (i.e., outside of Methanex) and
develop materials to enable the lessons from those events to be communicated (taught) internally within
Methanex.

Position Responsibilities

• Review applicable significant and relevant process safety disasters that have occurred in
industry
• Develop materials that can be utilised within Methanex as learnings and considerations for
current process improvements
• Materials to be developed would include, but not limited to:
o pamphlets,
o presentation slide-decks and speaker notes,
o checklists (or tools) for evaluating current Methanex practices and
o videos (if time permitted)
• Utilising real world experience (incidents) provide illustrations of the “potential” for these type
of events at Methanex sites and key control measures

Position Qualifications

• Analytical and research experience preferred
• Well organised
• Detail oriented
• Results driven and goal orientated
• Communicates well within own group and other departments
• High standard of written English to produce professional “learning materials” for use globally
• Excellent communication skills to understand how best to construct content for presentation
• Studying 3rd or 4th year in Engineering (Chemical/Process or Mechanical) that includes some focus on
process safety
• Chemical knowledge to understand the hazardous characteristics of incidents
• Mechanical engineering knowledge to understand the failure mechanisms in incidents
• An eye for professional presentation would be beneficial
• NZ Drivers Licence and access to a vehicle as there is no public transport available to work site
