Fostering Inclusion and Community Connection

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

Embedding an EDI Culture

We strive to provide an equitable and inclusive work environment where diversity is valued, and all global team members are encouraged and supported to reach their full potential. Valuing equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) means embracing our differences as strengths and recognizing how this contributes to our competitive advantage.

We believe this approach helps us attract and retain the best people, leading to better decision making and increased innovation. This, in turn, leads to a more successful and sustainable company.

Our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Council, led by the Director, EDI, and made up of senior-level Methanex leaders from around the world, supports the development and execution of our EDI Strategy and its integration into the business.

Within the strategy, our Vision, Guiding Principles and Strategic Priorities together outline our aspirational future state, our non-negotiable commitments for EDI at Methanex, and the steps we will take to achieve them.

Vision

Our vision is to have an inclusive culture where diversity is valued, differences are embraced and everyone has the opportunity to contribute, develop and advance.

Guiding Principles

1 We are committed to building an inclusive organization where everyone feels safe, respected and valued as their unique self.
2 We are committed to a diverse organization that values different perspectives, backgrounds, skills and abilities.
3 We are committed to fair and unbiased people practices that are transparent and consistently applied.

Strategic Priorities

1 Embed inclusive behaviours into Methanex’s culture.
2 Build leadership commitment and accountability to EDI.
3 Enhance the fairness, transparency and inclusiveness of people practices.

We are committed to being intentional in our actions today, build accountability in all of us and measure our progress regularly. We firmly believe that celebrating and embracing diversity and ensuring all our team members are valued and feel a sense of belonging is essential to Methanex’s long-term success.

Board Diversity

We recognize the importance of diversity at all levels of Methanex, starting with the Board. Board diversity promotes the inclusion of different perspectives and ideas and ensures Methanex has the opportunity to benefit from all available talent. In 2023, 64% of independent directors on our Board identify as being from underrepresented groups (i.e. Women, Aboriginal Peoples, persons with disabilities, visible minorities, or LGBTQ+).

Engaging with Communities

We strive to be a respected and valued corporate citizen by creating positive and sustainable impacts in the communities where we operate.

Building and maintaining our community relationships is core to who we are as a company and essential to our social license to operate. Our Stakeholder Relations Policy defines our goals to build positive relationships in the communities where we have significant presence, and to be accountable and responsive to the public.

We continually work to understand community interests, communicate information about our product and business activities, and address any community concerns. We do this primarily through Community Advisory Panels (CAPs), as well as stakeholder associations, open house days, community projects, seminars, community surveys and public meetings. The CAPs we have established at our manufacturing locations provide a valuable forum for open and honest communication between Methanex and our fence-line communities.

Investing in Communities

In addition to creating jobs and economic opportunities, we are committed to building and supporting healthy communities that are great places to live and work. Our community investments are focused on providing financial support to areas of need within the communities that we work in as well as partnering with team members through a matching grants program. Together with our employees, we donated almost $2 million and more than 6,700 hours of employee time to community efforts around the world.
